Roxy's Rockin' Reads

Hello, my name is Roxanne and I live in sunny Cornwall, UK. I have a very large passion for reading and have done so since I was really little, so you will very rarely see me without a book nearby. I enjoy all sorts of books...Horrors, Mysteries, Thrillers, Erotica, GLBT, Romance, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Self-Help, Fantasy and Sci-Fi...there really isn't much that I won't read.

I love animals! I have two beautiful dogs, Eli and Loki which are Husky/Border Collie cross, one very cheeky rabbit called Akemi and the laziest hamster I have ever known, Elvis.

As well as reading I love to surf the internet, talk about books, write about books, go to gigs, draw, listen to music and spend time with my family.

Feel free to add me as a friend as I enjoy meeting new people, discussing books and comparing reviews.

Not all of the books I have read are listed on my profile due to a Facebook app, that I used before Booklikes, crashed and I lost everything...I saved as much as I could :)

My Granny Writes Erotica - Threesome

My Granny Writes Erotica - Threesome - Rosen Trevithick I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

Jaws - Peter Benchley I remember sneaking off and reading this when I was younger, maybe a little too young... however, I was always into things that were way above my age range. I very much enjoyed this but I believe I need to re-read it as I was perhaps too young to understand some of it...I did enjoy the gory bits.

I Can't Be Bothered Doing Anything

I Can't Be Bothered Doing Anything - Chris Williams A really nice, well thought out book. I will be using the built in diary and planner in order to break the vicious cycle I have been in for a long time. It's like a little pocket pick-me-up. Perhaps aimed more towards others who are younger than me...maybe school age, however, I will keep referring back to this one.

I Feel So Bad I Can't Go on

I Feel So Bad I Can't Go on - Chris Williams Out of the whole 'Feeling Low' series, this one has effected me the most as I can relate to it the most. To see how I feel printed on pages in front of me confirms that I'm not the only one who has felt that they can not go on in life. This pocket pick me up book shares life changing information to help you to choose another way other than suicide. There are very valuable websites and numbers available in this book which are there for you to contact if you want or need help. So, if you feel like you just can't go on, no matter what the reason or the cause, please pick up this book.

Why Do I Feel So Bad?

Why Do I Feel So Bad? - Chris Williams A good pocket pick-me-up, very light with some helpful information, plans and examples. Personally I need something a lot more indepth and more suited to my age range.

Holes - Louis Sachar I remember reading this a few years ago in school. A long time has passed since then so it's hard to remember specifics, however, I do remember enjoying it. It was one of the few books that I actually enjoyed in English class.

How to Fix Almost Everything

How to Fix Almost Everything - Chris Williams A good pocket pick me up that's a part of the 'feeling low' series. This book helps you to take a problem or a situation that you want to change/control and breaks it down into easy to digest chunks. The process includes mindmapping in order to break down a problem and coming up with ideas in order to solve some issues you may have.

10 Things You Can Do to Feel Happier Straight Away

10 Things You Can Do to Feel Happier Straight Away - Chris Williams A nice, colorful, little pocket book which will help you to make small changes to your everyday life in order to lift your mood and improve your health.

Why Does Everything Always Go Wrong? (Pick Me Up Series)

Why Does Everything Always Go Wrong? (Pick Me Up Series) - Chris Williams A good little pocket book with some interesting information and guidance on how to try and beat negative thoughts that seem to take over your life. For more in-depth help websites and other books are listed as a tiny book like this just about scrapes the surface on changing your perspective on life.

An Introduction To Coping With Depression

An Introduction To Coping With Depression - Lee Brosan A very clear and constructive introduction to coping with depression. Some very useful information and helpful activities aiding the changing of negative thoughts to more positive thoughts. For long term sufferers I would recommend a more in-depth help book, however I would say read this as additional help as it's very informative.

Breastfeeding for Beginners

Breastfeeding for Beginners - Caroline Deacon A very nice, clear, easy to read guide on breastfeeding your baby.

Anxiety: The Essential Guide. Jennifer J. Ashcroft

Anxiety: The Essential Guide. Jennifer J. Ashcroft - Jennifer J. Ashcroft A very good, clear guide on coping with anxiety. It provides useful examples and scenarios in which you may relate. The information was easy to follow and understand, I recommend this book to anyone who suffers from anxiety.

Summer at the Lake

Summer at the Lake - Erica James I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

Strawberry Panic, Vol. 01

Strawberry Panic, Vol. 01 - Sakurako Kimino, Takuminamuchi I really enjoyed this manga, the artwork is so beautiful and the story very cute. As a fan of Yuri and Shoujo ai I knew I would like this manga due to it's genre. This is not an explicit manga but filled with fluffy romance and cute crushes.

My Mini Midwife

My Mini Midwife - D.J. Kirkby This book is all you need for everything you need or want to know about you and your bump. I would recommend this to every pregnant lady. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it is aimed at the 'traditional' pregnancy with the 'traditional' family plan...not with any support to an unplanned pregnancy or perhaps a single mother to be. This is probably not intentionally one sided but it would have been even more helpful with some information perhaps dedicated to a family which may not necessarily be seen as 'the norm'.

The single parent's handbook

The single parent's handbook - Rachel Morris 2.5 stars! I was going to give this 2 stars until I got to the end. I just found this so depressing...I am currently pregnant with my first child and I will be a single first thought was help! I need support! So I picked this up from the library. I must say...if this is what single parenthood is going to be like I am not looking forward to it. There seemed to be no upside to any downsides listed on every page...very one sided.
I gave a 0.5 star for the list of resources at the end of the book, very helpful websites and phone numbers.
